"A safe venue for unsafe art"
The Green Door Gallery
is an effort of several young artists to create a space where new, exciting
voices can be heard. Opened in November of 2000 and currently operated
by Héctor
Casanova and Renée Laferriere, The Green Door Gallery is an
artist-run alternative space dedicated to showcasing young and emerging
talent in and beyond the Kansas City Area.
From comics to tattoo art, installation to light sculpture, we provide
an alternative venue for artists that question the boundries of the art
world, artists who make art whose medium or subject might preclude it
from commercial galleries, art that might be considered unorthodox or
commercially non-viable, art that challenges preconceptions of art, politics,
culture and taste.
In short, we offer a safe venue for artists to show unsafe art.
We are located at 1229 1/2 Union St. in the West Bottoms of Kansas City,
Missouri. Our gallery hours, during the duration of a show, are Saturdays
from 1-5 pm, and by appointment. Feel free to call us at 816.421.6889,
