How can I get a gallery in New York early to watch the work of an established artist on the new NYC art scene?
I know an older man who is a well known contemporary expretionist / surrealist in his homeland where he often organizes exhibitions (he his first show in the 1940s when he was just a teenager!). This talented man is also an extraordinary poet. He deserves to be recognized by his peers in the city, he was called home for 30 years: NYC. It would be huge damage if anyone outside of his homeland to see the work Artist. Any constructive suggestions?
This is a great question! Your friend is not alone in this boat, either! There are over 100,000 artists living in New York today. There may be 200 galleries in Manhattan so you can understand that only a tiny percentage of artists get one day show in a gallery. Talented as your friend May be, it is in good company because there is actually a very large number of talented artists in the world …. and large numbers of artists willing to compete for the gallery space by using all means at their disposal. The probability of obtaining its representation at a gallery in NYC is thin. This was bad news …. Here are some news …. Your best friend may not show his work at a pay-as-you-go-galleries Soho or Chelsea. He must pay a fee to be in a group show …. and it is not cheap, but it is doable. Try the Agora Gallery. You can search the net for their content. They have two galleries in Chelsea … one and one in Soho. He will need to send slides for for consideration. Although this solution far from perfect for him, it will get him in a New York gallery for a month. Good luck in your quest!
